About this game
Midnight Shuto is a compact browser driving game inspired by the author's memories of Midtown Madness. Players start with a car on an open road and can cruise freely or take on street events that race the clock through checkpoints, sprints and drift runs, some with bot cars sharing the route. Cars can be picked and repainted, the atmosphere switched between daylight, sunset, night and rain, and camera views, map, car recovery and pause are available at any time. Medals and a driver record track progress across runs. Controls use WASD or arrow keys with Space for the handbrake, E to start a nearby mission, C for camera, M for map, R to recover the car, Esc or P to pause, and F3 for developer telemetry; gamepads are supported after the first button press. It is written in TypeScript with Three.js, Vite and cannon-es, runs at the linked GitHub Pages URL, and can also be built locally with Node.js 22 or newer via npm install, npm run dev and npm run build.
