# Fate Legacy

A free, open-source text life-sim fan game set in the Shadow Slave universe: you are infected by the Nightmare Spell, face your First Nightmare as an Aspirant, gain an Aspect and a Flaw, and try to climb the Soul Ranks. Runs take a few minutes and most lives end early.

## Description

Fate Legacy is a browser-based narrative life-sim fan project set in the world of the Nightmare Spell from the novel Shadow Slave. Each run is one whole life: the Spell infects you, you face your First Nightmare as an Aspirant, and if you survive you receive an Aspect and a Flaw shaped by how you played. From there you try to climb the Soul Ranks (Awakened, Master, Saint and beyond). Features include three Origins (Outskirts, Citadel Ward, Great Clan) that double as difficulty settings, hand-written original Nightmares built inside the novel's rules, Aspects, Flaws, Lineages, Memories, Echoes, Soul Cores, Tether, recurring Gate duty, and a short How to play guide on first launch. It is free, non-commercial, unofficial and open source; the author states they will take it down on request of the rights holder. It runs on desktop and phones.

## Original post

I made a free, open-source Shadow Slave fan game: a text life-sim from Aspirant to Divine. Looking for testers and honest reviews

Hey everyone, I’ve been working on Fate Legacy , a narrative life-sim set in the world of the Nightmare Spell, and I’d love for this community to try it and tell me what you think. ▶ Play it here (browser, works on phone): https://criptore.github.io/Fate-Legacy/ What it is One run = one whole life. The Spell infects you, you face your First Nightmare as an Aspirant, and if you survive you get an Aspect and a Flaw shaped by how you played it. From there you try to climb the Soul Ranks: Awakened, Master, Saint, and beyond. Most lives end early. That’s kind of the point. 3 Origins (Outskirts / Citadel Ward / Great Clan), which double as the difficulty setting Hand-written original Nightmares (none taken from the novel, all built inside its rules) Aspects, Flaws, Lineages, Memories, Echoes, Soul Cores, Tether, recurring Gate duty A short “How to play” guide on first launch, added after the first round of feedback said the stats were hard to read What it isn’t Not commercial, ever. No ads, no donations, no premium tier, nothing planned. It’s a fan project made for fun. Not official. It isn’t written or endorsed by GuiltyThree. If the author or a rights holder would rather it didn’t exist, I’ll take it down, no argument. Fully open source. All the code is on GitHub: https://github.com/criptore/Fate-Legacy . If you like the setting, feel free to take it and build on it. What I’m asking for Play a few runs (each takes a few minutes), then tell me honestly: Clarity: were the stats, rolls and HUD easy to understand? Did the guide help? Writing: do the Nightmares and events feel like Shadow Slave? Anything that breaks the tone or gets the lore wrong? Balance: did your deaths feel fair or cheap? Did any choice feel pointless? Variety: after 3–5 runs, did things start repeating? Bugs: anything broken, stuck, or weird on your device? You can reply here, or use the “Leave feedback” / “Report a bug” buttons on the end screen. They open a GitHub issue pre-filled with your run’s details, which helps me a lot (you’ll need a free GitHub account for that). ⚠️ Spoiler note: the game uses the novel’s rank ladder and systems all the way up (Sacred, Divine, Echoes, Soul Cores, etc.). No plot spoilers, but if you’re early in the book, the higher ranks’ names and mechanics show up. Thanks for reading, and I hope at least one of your Sleepers makes it out alive. Quick follow-up: thanks to everyone who’s been playing and sending feedback. Several fixes already went in because of you (endless loop, Gate text repeating, Aspects now actually giving their bonuses, and more). I’m wondering if anyone here has some free time and would be interested in working on this mini project together. Writing events and Nightmares, checking lore, testing, or code, anything helps. If a few people are up for it, I’ll set up a small Discord server so we can coordinate. No pressure and no commitment: it’s a free, non-commercial fan project, done for fun. Just reply here or DM me if you’re interested. submitted by /u/New_Click_833 to r/ShadowSlave [link] [comments]
