Brinebound: a Lovecraftian idle ARPG, free in your browser (my first release, feedback wanted)

## Description

Brinebound is an idle ARPG playable free in the browser (also a Windows download) from 8bitrhys.itch.io. Your Castaway fights on their own, so the player manages gear, crafting, pacts, and destinations instead of direct combat. It includes five acts with an ending, 44 places, 49 bosses, about eight to ten hours of play, ten weapon types with signature moves, 118 uniques, nine crafting Salts, a rule-based loot filter, a star chart of eight constellations with pacts and a Sanity budget, and a lighthouse base that automates salvage, stash, and expeditions. Time away counts at a reduced rate improved by the lighthouse. Prestige (the Change) is available after the story, keeping stash, lighthouse, and learned weapon habits. Browser saves use local browser storage with export/import to a file. No ads, purchases, or account. Built with AI tools for art (AI-generated paintings converted to pixel art) and code/writing assistance; music by Kevin MacLeod. Version 0.1.1, desktop layout only, phones not supported.

## Original post

Brinebound: a Lovecraftian idle ARPG, free in your browser (my first release, feedback wanted)

Hi all! I have been building an idle ARPG called Brinebound , and it is now up and playable, free, in the browser or as a Windows download: https://8bitrhys.itch.io/brinebound It is heavily influenced by the stories of Lovecraft and of those who wrote cosmic horror before him, and by one of my favourite games, Path of Exile. Your Castaway fights without you, so the game is everything else: what they wear, what you craft, which pacts you swear and where you send them next. Nothing is ever equipped for you and nothing is marked as "better". An item's card tells you exactly what would change, and the choice is yours. What is in it Five acts with an ending: 44 places and 49 bosses, about eight to ten hours, then portals with keys you can craft dangers onto. Ten kinds of weapon, each with habits and a signature move that come back to you as you use it. 118 uniques that each do something no ordinary item can, nine crafting Salts, and a loot filter you write as rules. A star chart of eight constellations, each ending in a pact with a real price, and a Sanity budget that forbidden gear spends. A lighthouse you build up, which takes the chores off your hands: salvage, a stash, faster speeds, residents you send on expeditions. Free, no ads, no purchases, no account. It sends nothing anywhere. Time away counts : at a reduced rate that the lighthouse improves, with a report when you come back. Expeditions run on the real clock. Prestige : yes, after the story. It is called the Change: you begin again at a deeper tide, keep your stash, your lighthouse and what your hands remember, and can swear a Vow for the next life. Saves : in the browser it lives in your browser's storage, so there is a button that writes your character to a file (and reads one back, which is also how you move to the Windows version). Phones : not yet. It is laid out for a desktop screen. Being upfront: it is made with AI tools. The art starts as AI-generated paintings that a pipeline I built for the game cuts down into pixel art, and the code and most of the writing are done with an AI assistant. What the game is, and every decision in it, are mine. The music is by Kevin MacLeod. If that is a dealbreaker for you, fair enough, and I would rather you knew before you clicked. It is version 0.1.1 and I am one person, so the balance will keep moving. I would love to hear where you got stuck, what felt unfair, what felt pointless, and which weapon you ended up holding. If something breaks, "Write a report" on the Menu saves one file that lets me load your character and try the same fight. Thanks for reading! submitted by /u/8BitRhys to r/aigamedev [link] [comments]
